PISA – Program for International Student Assessment
PISA is a large-scale international study conducted by the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) every three years. It assesses the reading, mathematics, and science literacy of 15-year-old students to evaluate how well they can apply their knowledge to real-world problems.
Unlike traditional exams, PISA focuses on competency-based learning, measuring students' critical thinking, problem-solving, and ability to analyze complex information. The results help policymakers, educators, and researchers understand the strengths and weaknesses of education systems worldwide, guiding evidence-based reforms to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
PISA in Georgia
PISA was first conducted in Georgia in 2009, and since then, the country has participated in 3 cycles. The next PISA study is scheduled for 2025, and it will be implemented in Georgia by the National Center for Educational Research (NCER).
A pilot trial was conducted online in April and May 2024, with the main study scheduled for 2025. Schools for the pilot test were randomly selected by Westat, the international organization responsible for the selection of PISA schools.
